The Art of Marketing

Today I bypassed the weekly research meeting to attend the Art of Marketing conference in Calgary, featuring keynotes by some of the brightest marketing minds, including Chip Heath, Gary Vaynerchuk, Ken Robinson, Mitch Joel, Sally Hogshead and Max Lenderman. So what does this have to do with investing? Everything!
The underlying message was that we are still at the very early stages of the Internet. Only 1 in 100 people worldwide own a computer. But with the expansion of the middle class in the emerging markets, and the continual development of new technologies and programs, we have only just begun. Companies around the world must embrace this new reality as it is destined to be a culture changing phenomena.
There are many businesses operating in this space, like Nuance Communications, Baidu, or Ctrip. There are also othes which are more indirect plays like Jabil Circuit and Synaptics. The bottom line, have a portion of your portfolio allocated to the social media and social marketing space.
